Friday 25th May-SHAMBHALA by Alan Senior

The idea of the tranquil Valley  of  the  Blue  Moon  (or  Shangri-La,  published  as  an adventure novel called ‘Lost Horizon’  by  James  Hilton  in  1933)  caught  the  public imagination and has remained there ever since.   Is Shangri-La, an eternally  secluded place free from the cares and troubles of  ‘civilised’ man,  merely  a  beautiful  dream?   We explore  the  possibilities  with  the  aid  of   the  words  and  paintings of  Nicholas Roerich,  whose  five-year expedition took him to the heart of  Central  Asia.

Said Roerich:  “The ‘great-souled ones’ – warriors of truth, beauty and freedom from all despair, hatred and prejudice – invite the vanguard of  humanity  to  co-operate  in the unification of the world;  may the banners of Shambhala fly in every land.”

The Esoterica Magazine:

Winter/Spring 2011 Vol2 no1

"The word Theosophy has been used for many centuries; it is a compound word of Greek

origin meaning Wisdom of the

Gods (Theos - of Gods,

Sophia - wisdom). Wisdom

cannot be enclosed within

words, it is Truth which must be

discovered and experienced.

Each of us must find our own

'Truth' and strive to understand

our own spiritual nature"
